Film heritage and restitution: Who owns the images?

What are the implications of the expropriation and migration of a film heritage that originated under colonial conditions? What models of critical reappropriation are available, and what forms of cooperation between archives are possible? Film scholar and curator Nikolaus Perneczky uses two films to illustrate how issues of restitution and reparation also affect moving images in archives.

Introduction by film scholar and curator Nikolaus Perneczky, followed by a discussion moderated by Philip Widmann (UZH), in English

The evening is part of the inter-university doctoral collaboration ‘Visual Dispositives: Cinema, Photography and Other Media’ (University of Zurich / Université de Lausanne). A doctoral workshop with Nikolaus Perneczky will take place at UZH on 11 November.
