The Wizard of Oz
Victor Fleming (USA, 1939)
‘This unforgettable classic tells the adventurous story of little Dorothy from Kansas, who is swept away by a tornado to the magical Land of Oz beyond the rainbow. To find her way back home from there, she must first find the Wizard of Oz and defeat a wicked witch. That’s not as easy as it sounds. On her perilous journey, she is accompanied by a Good Witch, a Scarecrow made of straw, a Tin Woodman and a Cowardly Lion.” (hanisauland.de)
“There’s always something we feel is missing. But don’t we sometimes already have everything – we just don’t realise it? On her journey to Oz, Dorothy learns that there’s actually no place like home. And her new friends realise that they already had far more heart, brains and courage than they thought. The 1939 film tells this story as a wonderful fairy tale featuring numerous songs.” (kinderfilmwelt.de)
Suitable for ages 6 and over, recommended for ages 8 and over; adult supervision generally recommended.
Workshop
Following the two screenings on 24 October and 14 November 2026, the Filmpodium is offering a workshop for children led by film educator Stefanie Schlüter (approx. 30 mins, free of charge, no advance booking required). The children will be taken on a journey of discovery through the world of film-making and introduced to individual scenes and themes from the film.
