MUNCH
Film programme for the exhibition at the Arthouse Piccadilly 1 cinema
Edvard Munch’s *The Scream* is one of the most important (and most expensive!) paintings of the 20th century. But who was Edvard Munch?
Over four episodes, MUNCH (2023) unfolds the unique life story of a tormented soul. From an up-and-coming artist in Berlin at the end of the 19th century to an unconventional old man who protects his life’s work from the Nazis in occupied Norway.
MUNCH is a multi-layered portrait of an inscrutable artist. Blending black-and-white aesthetics with contemporary visions, Norwegian director Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken crafts an intense, century-spanning portrait – a life as a tour de force through different eras and stylistic worlds, in pursuit of the echo that still resonates today from the world-famous ‘Scream’ continues to resonate to this day.
With an introduction by Sandra Gianfreda, curator of the exhibition
