‘Printed in Zurich’ with a focus on disputations – the Reformation in the crossfire

The Grossmünster houses a unique collection of Bibles and writings from the Reformation period 500 years ago. This treasure is on display to the public in the church gallery.

In addition to numerous printed Bibles, there is also a collection of Zurich Reformation writings. A selection of original prints from the period of the disputations has been on display since January 2023 to mark the 500th anniversary of the First Zurich Disputation.

The Reformers sought to bring the Holy Scriptures to the people and into public discourse. Through ‘disputations’ (debates), the truth was to be found on the basis of the Bible.

Audio recordings
When visiting the collection of writings, you can listen to audio recordings via QR codes or here listen to audio recordings. The actor Samuel Streiff brings dialogues from the two Zurich disputations to life.

Listen to an engaging radio programme from SRF 1 featuring Grossmünster pastor Martin Rüsch on the Zurich disputations and the exhibition.
