For more than 50 years, the Theater am Hechtplatz has stood for high-class entertainment. The cobblestones in the foyer are reminiscent of the former taxi stand, which the architect Ernst Gysel integrated into the theatre building in 1959 on behalf ...
Long live women!
Betty Dieterle & Ensemble
The year is 2030. The world has seen better days. Climate change is causing havoc: even in Switzerland, the thermometer regularly climbs above 36 degrees – when it isn’t raining for days on end. Politically, things are in turmoil in Europe, with crises and conflicts the order of the day. In short: the world has been turned upside down.
But amidst all this turmoil, something unexpected happens. A small theatre in a small, wealthy country is suddenly occupied. Five women of different ages decide that they cannot simply stand by and watch the impending apocalypse unfold. Hulda, Zita, Isabelle, Debbie and Sherilyn have a plan – and it’s a bold one. They call for a strike and urge women and FLINTA* to drop everything for a while: work, housework, care work and, yes, even to refuse to sleep with anyone. Naturally, this idea doesn’t meet with enthusiasm everywhere. And so our story takes its course.
And then there’s Kilian – the self-proclaimed ‘women’s whisperer’. What exactly is his mission in this illustrious group? And will he stand a chance with the ladies at all?
The five wonderfully quirky heroines take the audience on a musical and humorous journey through time, spanning many decades of the struggle for equality. ‘Vive les Femmes!’ is a cheerful, tongue-in-cheek and heart-warming slice of contemporary history – with music, wit and a generous helping of hope.
The building at Hechtplatz 7 will undergo renovation from January 2026. During this time, we will be presenting our programme at Haus Seefeld (Seefeldstrasse 91, 8008 Zurich).
