Zurich Reads: Rotpunktverlag

The publisher

Just ten months to go until the publishing house’s anniversary! The publishing director, Nola, is new to the industry and first needs to learn the ropes. The successful poet Susanna has promised her first novel, but hasn’t delivered it. Translator Pénélope shines with her clever, witty wordplay, and Peter, the former editor, is on a mysterious round-the-world trip. Four voices recount everyday life at the publishing house with dedication, charm and a pinch of gallows humour. And then, suddenly, the day of the big anniversary arrives – and everything turns out quite differently from plan.

Published to mark the 50th anniversary of Rotpunkt Verlag, *Der Verlag* is an entertaining story centred on a small publishing house, of the sort found in abundance. Especially for this rather different commemorative volume, Romana Ganzoni (as Susanna Mainradi), Samuel Herzog (as Peter), Lis Künzli (as Pénélope) and Karin Rey (as Nola) have joined forces to form a literary quartet. As part of the ‘Zürich liest’ festival, they will present their novel for the first time in a joint staged reading.
