For ever and ever, but

Manegg Cemetery is an important place of tranquillity overlooking the city. Up here, thoughts can arise that can only come to mind in this place. The audio walk, as an artistic intervention, is a thought-provoking interplay with these thoughts, which emerge from the depths of tranquillity and mingle with one’s own.

The walk becomes a grand digression. Stories and associations emerge, leading to the cemetery’s historic and mysterious spots. Over the course of just under an hour, the journey of the mind takes us from the restless Alfred Escher to a grave with a mysterious spelling mistake, to goldfish in an infinity pool, to the defence of the cemetery with a chainsaw, to the farewell of Prince Esterházy, to a crooked survivor and a scandalous joint burial, right up to the final moments of our universe. In eternal peace, much is in motion and death is not the end... of thoughts.

Concept / Idea: Meret Tobler, Katja Wolf and Markus Rottmann. Texts: Markus Rottmann. Director: Chris Niemeyer. Sound design: Peter Bräker. Voices: Dagna Litzenberger Vinet, Samuel Streiff, Siegfried Terpoorten and Edith Kaupp. Production: City of Zurich, Tomb and Cemetery Culture and Cemetery Forum.

The starting point is by the steps in front of the cemetery chapel at Manegg Cemetery, Thujastrasse 60, 8038 Zurich.

This quiet and very private walk is best experienced alone. The audio walk can be undertaken individually at any time. Listen to the audio walk directly via Spotify or via Download the MP3 file. Put on your headphones and let your thoughts wander.
