Film tips for April

The F + F School's film course discovers new things, the Uto-Kino goes Pink! and film meets music at the Rote Fabrik and the Filmpodium.

New discoveries of the Zurich film scene

The Film course at the F + F School of Art and Design is celebrating its 20th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the Xenix cinema is organising a three-part programme with a total of 13 short films by students. The films are characterised by a great variety of genres and themes, so there is something for every taste. Ideal for discovering newcomers to the Zurich film scene.

Insight into the LGBT film world

In cooperation with the queer film festival Pink Apple, the Arthouse Uto shows monthly works from the LGBT film world. In April, "Hawaii" by Marco Berger will be shown. The Golden Apple winner tells the sensitive love story of two former childhood friends. A great opportunity to visit the Uto while the traditional cinema is still open. (For those who want to see Berger's cinematic work in detail - the Filmpodium is showing a retrospective of the filmmaker in April).

Sunday vibes already at the beginning of the week

The neo-objective masterpiece "Menschen am Sonntag" (People on Sunday) shows the simple pleasures of a Berlin summer Sunday in a pseudo-documentary way and with great attention to detail: bathing in the lake, listening to the gramophone, forming tender bonds. This dreamy, picturesque ballad of images is accompanied in the Filmpodium with live music by Günter A. Buchwald. Violin and piano sounds lend the poetic silent film a very special charm.

Osmosis of film and music

Film and music meet at the O/SMOS/IS Festival in the Rote Fabrik. The festival opens with three short films by the up-and-coming filmmaker Vasilis Kekato, whose films have already been shown in Locarno and Cannes. One of the three films, "As You Sleep the World Empties", features musician Pavlos Pavlidis, who will perform live with the formation Hotel Alaska after the film programme.
