Film tips for November

Film Buff Quiz at the Filmpodium and three festivals: Orient Express Film Festival, Films for the Future and the Winterthur International Short Film Festival.

Film festival for cultural exchange between East and West

The Orient Express Film Days are going into their fourth round and this year again present an extensive selection of films, among others from Turkey, Kurdistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq or Syria. The theme of this year's edition is "Hope". Against the backdrop of wars and the climate crisis, beacons of hope are urgently needed. The festival brings them to the big screen in the form of films. In doing so, it strives for an intercultural dialogue aimed at mutual understanding and thus a possible future of togetherness.

Films and discussions for a better future

The Films for the Future film festival is also full of hope: current documentaries on topics such as biodiversity, health, artificial intelligence and global justice will be screened. Subsequent talks offer the opportunity to discuss the relevant topics in depth with experts, filmmakers and politicians. Approaches to solutions will also be presented to encourage the audience to take new paths towards a better future.

Short Film Festival in Winterthur

The short film is not only a springboard for budding filmmakers, but an art form in its own right. Nevertheless, the little sister of the feature-length film receives far less attention in the film landscape. The International Short Film Festival Winterthur counters this by screening historical to contemporary short films from all over the world. The focus of the 27th edition is on Nigerian and Canadian filmmaking. In addition, there will be a focus on the German director Willy Hans. The programme is rounded off with workshops, installations, concerts and parties.

Quiz for film lovers and cinema connoisseurs

Those who want to put their film knowledge to the test should pay a visit to the Filmpodium on 10 November. The legendary film buff quiz will take place there for the 15th time. Using film clips, questions will be asked about all kinds of films, from classics to new releases. The moderation team, consisting of Filmpodium director Nicole Reinhard and cultural journalist Michel Bodmer, will review highlights and embarrassments of film history.
