Live music in January

The new year gets off to a sleepy start. Music only returns to the pubs towards the end of the month. But then with vigour, right through the decades to the present day.

Big Zis, Les Reines Prochaines

Icons come together! Rap veteran Big Zis has developed her last album "B:I:G" into a collaborative work of art, which will be released under the name "Big Hug" and brings together artists such as Ester Poly, Jessica Jurassica and Fatima Moumouni. The album release party including collaborators will take place at Moods. The even quirkier veterans of Les Reines Prochaines will set the mood for the evening.

24 January, Moods, Zurich

Lords of the Underground

The Lords of the Underground entered the hip-hop stage in 1993 with "Here Come The Lords", one year after The Pharcyde with "Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde" and one year before Nas with "Illmatic". All three albums play in a similarly iconic league, but only the Lords of the Underground never became a big name and thus always remained just that: underground. in 2025, they returned with a new album - their strongest in decades, according to reports.

29 January, Albani, Winterthur

The Dharma Chain

Australian musicians have often been drawn to Berlin. Nick Cave is probably the best known. With The Dharma Chain, an entire band has relocated to the German capital. And has enjoyed growing success ever since. But that's certainly not just because of Berlin, but above all because of their appealingly lulling 60s psychedelic rock.

30.01., Gaswerk, Winterthur

CV Vision, Embryo

Embryo are still around? Wasn't that a 70s band? Yes, they were. But part of the concept of this improvisation-heavy Krautrock group has always been their existence as a collective with a changing line-up. And so it is that today Embryo is a young, lively band in the here and now, led by Marja Burchard, the daughter of the founder. At Moods, she will be accompanied by CV Vision, Dennis Schulze's music project, whose sound could just as easily have been beamed here from the 70s.

31.01., Moods, Zurich

Buray

Of course, Buray is a pop star. One of the greats of the Turkish music world. A lot of it is pretty smooth and love-soaked. But it's Turkish pop after all. And as such, it's simply the best food for the soul when you're longing for Istanbul.
