Zurich Art Weekend

In the Schauspielhaus and the Museum Rietberg, an artistic confrontation with the war and with the colonial heritage will be attempted by means of performances, and the artists Parastou Forouhar and Christopher Kulendran Thomas will provide deep insights into their artistic work.

Art as an ambassador for peace

In cooperation with the Kyiv Art Week, the Schauspielhaus Zürich is offering its stage to the nomadic project Performing Kyiv. How to measure peace? to the nomadic project Performing Kyiv: Performances will be shown that deal with the role of art as an ambassador for peace and its subversive potential in times of war.

Ornamentation as a figure of thought

Ornamental structures serve the artist and activist Parastou Forouhar as a means of illustrating and reflecting on the atrocities of dictatorial regimes. In conversation with art historian Susann Wintsch at the Kunsthaus Zürich, the multimedia artist provides insights into her artistic work and activist activities.

Artistic confrontation with the colonial heritage

As part of the exhibition "Look Closer" at the Museum Rietberg, the artists Titilayo Adebayo, Cherry-Ann Davis and Teddy Pratt critically examine the colonial archive of Hans Himmelheber. On the occasion of the Zurich Art Weekend, they will show the results of their artistic examination of the Himmelheber archive alongside a performance.

Constructed reality

The exhibition "For Real" by artist Christopher Kulendran Thomas at the Kunsthalle Zürich traces the history of the Tamil independence movement and its creative scene. By combining documentation with speculative science fiction, alternative realities are imagined. With MoMA curator Michelle Kuo, Thomas discusses the interplay of new technologies and alternative historiography.
