Biking around the World for a free Western Sahara
Sanna Ghotbi and Benjamin Ladraa are Swedish human rights activists who are cycling around the world to raise awareness about Africa's last colony, Western Sahara. They started cycling about two years ago, and Switzerland is their 21st country.
Western Sahara has been occupied by Morocco since 1975. The Sahrawi people, the indigenous people of Western Sahara, regularly suffer serious human rights violations. Around 175,000 Sahrawi refugees live in refugee camps in the harsh Algerian desert and are completely dependent on humanitarian aid to survive.
The Moroccan regime does not allow foreign journalists or human rights organizations to enter the occupied territory. This makes Western Sahara one of the least covered regions in the world.
That's why Sanna and Benjamin decided to go on a bicycle tour around the world. They will spend more than two years cycling 30,000 kilometers through 30 countries, giving lectures and speaking to media, politicians and human rights groups in each country.
Eine Ko-Produktion mit dem Schweizerischen Unterstützungskomitee für die Sahraouis SUKS. Diese Veranstaltung findet auf Englisch statt.
