Konzert: Chief Adjuah

Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah, formerly known as Christian Scott, is a renowned trumpeter, composer, and sonic architect. His groundbreaking work and innovation in music sets him apart as a leading force in modern jazz.

His new album «Bark Out Thunder Roar Out Lightning», celebrated by The New York Times as the best jazz album of 2023, is a powerful tribute to Indigenous identity, resilience, and resistance.

It marks Adjuah’s first significant departure from jazz, honoring the other tradition that raised him: the «maroon» community of New Orleans’s Black masking Indians, commonly known as Mardi Gras Indians.

Notably, this album is Adjuah’s first without any trumpet, instead it features Adjuah's own powerful singing voice and plucked kora strings, revisiting classics from the call-and-response Black Indian repertoire.
